Greeting from the Department of Library and Information Science!! The world is going through a tremendous positive transformation, and in education its effects are clearly discernible. We in the Department of Library and Information Science want to be part of this positive change utilizing our core strengths in Library and Information Science, Library and Information Science Research, Library Management Tools and Software’s, Management of Information Sources and Implementation of ICT application in Library.

The Department of Library and Information Science was established as a separate department in 1975 in the University College of Social Science & Humanities.

In 1994 it also started a regular one year programme Master in LIS course. Subsequently in the session 1999, the facility of Ph.D programme in LIS was initiated in the department. This is considered as second full- fledged department having all the facilities of UG, PG and Ph.D in Rajasthan.

In 2018 the department adopted Choice Based Credit System in both UG and PG courses. The curriculum covers a wide range of aspects in the latest emerging technologies both in Theory and Practical as well. A well-equipped computer lab with library management software’s in the department facilitates on hand practical sessions. The department is endowed with multimedia facilities. It has made e-contents available for the reference of students at university website as well.

To enhance technical and communication skills of the students department conducts seminars on key topics at regular basis where participation of the students is mandatory.

Employment Status

This department profoundly produces human resources with expertise in ICT applications in Libraries and Information Centres and therefore raises the ratio of placement for M. Lib. I. Sc students.

The Curriculum is designed in such a way that the students get a hands on experience in major Libraries through the internship program offered by the college. They are also encouraged to take up mini projects in association with the Dept. of Library and Information Science to supplement their theoretical knowledge with practical experience. We also encourage students to organize events on Library week, Reading Day Celebrations, seminars and workshops, festivals, participate in Social sensitization events organized by the college and the Dept. of Library and Information Science, and also involvement in activities of social relevance. Our students are given value added courses in Communicative English, Professional Competency Development, Online Tools for Research, Stress Management etc. We have designed our syllabus to strike a balance between professional knowledge in the core subjects associated with Library and Information science along with training in various Library management and Digitization software to cope up with the expectations of the corporate world. We believe in constantly upgrading our curriculum pedagogy to meet the changing needs of the Industry.
